A few providers also charge a nominal amount for a short trial rather than offering one free. Those appear on the pay-as-you-go comparison rather than here, but they are worth knowing about: a two dollar trial that answers your question is better value than a free one that does not.
Making a small allowance count

What to measure
Success rate over as many requests as the allowance permits, counted properly: a soft block returning an empty result is a failure even though it returned a 200.
Whether targeting works at the granularity you need. If your work depends on city-level or carrier-level selection, confirm it during the trial — this is frequently a paid add-on rather than an included feature.
Session stability, if any part of your job involves logins or multi-step flows. A pool that cannot hold an address for the duration of a checkout is not usable for that work regardless of how good its success rate looks.
Setting expectations
Some providers route trial accounts through a lower-quality pool than paying customers get. A mediocre trial result is therefore not conclusive evidence against a provider, particularly one with a strong review record. Where the trial is borderline, a small pay-as-you-go top-up on the real pool is the cheaper way to settle it than committing to a month.
